Nurse Appreciation

During Nurse Appreciation week we host an Awards Dinner. We reach out to every organization in Yonkers to recommend nurses. They receive certificates and proclamations from local officials and an engraved commemorative plaque. Families and friends join the celebration.

Nurse Appreciation 2019

Due to Covid-19 social distancing precautions, we had to cancel the 2020 event. We researched what nurses might want right now and found out that nurses and doctors are receiving a lot of praise and recognition. So we turned our attention to the housekeeping and security personnel whose grunt work matters a lot and who may not be recognized.

We weren’t even allowed into the facility to deliver the food and therefore were not able to take pictures.  We chose to honor the custodial and housekeeping staff.

This year we delivered cookies and gift bags to all the nurses’ stations at both St. John’s and St. Joseph’s

In May 2023, after several years of isolation due to Covid, East Yonkers Kiwanis finally had an in-person event honoring our Yonkers nurses. Annette Volino, matriach of this initiative, did an amazing job honoring all our nurses. Even during Covid she found unique ways to remember them as a vital part of our community and their heroic efforts during a historical time.

During Covid, our Matriarch of this event, Annette Volino, found unique and amazing ways to honor and remember our nurses as they were a necessary and pertinent part of heroic efforts in our community. In May 2023, Mrs. Volino finally was able to have an in-person event at Dunwoodie golf course honoring our nurses.
